  • Dr Ameneh Khatami will present virtually about Bacteriophage treatment
  • Associate Professor Doug Forrester will present 'Bronchiectasis: update, research and therapeutic pipeline in WA'


Dr Ameneh Khatami is a Senior Lecturer for University of Sydney, and a paediatric infectious diseases specialist, based at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead (CHW). Ameneh's research background is in clinical vaccine trials with the Oxford Vaccine Group, but her current interests include novel and precision therapeutic options for difficult to treat infections, including for patients with cystic fibrosis, in particular phage therapy. Ameneh is a Deputy Director of the Phage Australia network and she is the Phage Therapy Content Expert for the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN) Advanced Therapeutics Steering Committee.


Associate Professor Doug Forrester

Doug Forrester completed his undergraduate medical degree at The University of Nottingham where he also completed early physician training before taking up a Clinical Lecturer post supported by a Wellcome Trust fellowship. He spent time training in epidemiological methods, designing clinical trials and developing bacterial/epithelial cell co-culture techniques in Nottingham and Dartmouth College, New Hampshire before going back to full-time clinical work as a respiratory physician. Doug has worked in large research centres to rural communities in the UK and across Australia in Darwin and Brisbane before moving to Perth in Jan 2023. Doug has experience in all areas of respiratory medicine and now specialises in Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis and lung infection. His research interests are in developing effective biomarkers and management of infection.
